- How did the show start?
On August 8th, 2009, I was shooting the breeze in the chatbox, and I mentioned I've always wanted to host a radio show. I added that it would need to be at night, because I'm borderline nocturnal and just prefer staying up. On a whim, I asked for the chatters to send me questions while I recorded myself answering them. And that was the very first episode of Up L8. - Is 'Toby Mobias' your real name?
No, it is not. Back in, I think 2008, I signed up for a Voice Acting Guild forum, and there was already a member with my real name (which shall remain disclosed for security reasons). I was drawing and writing my own comics at the time, and I just chose the name of one of my characters, Toby Alexander Mobias, to be my stage name. I've since used it for plays, voice acting projects, and most of my friends and teachers have just called me Toby because my real name is pretty common.
The surname 'Mobias' comes from the old Sonic SatAM cartoon, which I had a VHS tape of as a kid. In the show, I believe it's spelt 'Mobius', as in a Mobius Loop.
FUNFACT: Rabbot got his username from the same show, and was unaware that was where mine came from too. ^_^ - What do you use to make your show?
Audacity, mainly. I used v.1.2 for the past few years, but lately I've switched to 1.3 beta, because it's a lot faster and doesn't crash nearly as often. For videos, I used to edit on Movie Maker XP, but now I use a combination of Live Movie Maker 7 and Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0. I've gone through several microphones, each with good things and bad things about them. Since the beginning of Season 3, I've used a regular Rock Band USB mic for the Playstation 2. - What are the show's theme songs?
From mid Season 1 to early Season 3, the theme song used has been "Out of Time" by our very own member Comic, who seems to not come on anymore. Since the switchover, it's been "She Blinded Me with Weird Science", a mash up of Thomas Dolby and Oingo Boingo by Washington DC-based DJ Lil'e. - Who is Dr. Mobinsano?
Basically, my unabashed ripoff of Noah Antwiler's Dr. Insano character. I fully realize he is an overused and sometimes annoying concept, but he's just so much damn fun to play XP. - Why did you stop doing shows on the chatbox?
The short answer is: it's easier for all parties.
The long answer is: I got very tired of telling people, urging them to show up to the chatbox at 12:30 EST, when we record, to submit questions live, and they don't show. If we don't get around 15 to 30 questions a show, there really is no show. We also restructured the show so that, if we don't get enough mail-in questions, we have things to talk about regardless, with the News and Weekly Plug sections. The irony of course is that when we record using the PM questions, the chatbox is full to bursting XP. - What is the Soultaker and the Mobiarsenal?
The Soultaker is my favourite weapon prop. I got it at a yard sale, actually, for free. I bought a Sega Genesis Mk. 1 for about $2, and she threw in the gun for free. I just love it, with it's silver colouring and big ol' Zordon tube at the top.
The Mobiarsenal (formerly the Ban Arsenal) is just my name of weapons, 'real' and fictional, that I use when mucking about. It started out as the Banhammer, and then I just began collecting toy weapondry to add to it. - Can I host the show if you're gone?
No, that's what I have Rabbot for XDD
In the event we're both gone, we just don't do the show. Luckily, we're both usually around on Friday nights because we just enjoy the show, not because, as some have guessed, we have no where else to be. - Why do you say "Goodbye, good luck, and get out" at the end of episodes?
That's just my thing. I just did it one show, and it stuck. - Why does Rabbot hate the Pokemon theme?
Because he wants to be the very best, like no one ever was
I just would start singing it for no reason at all, and it got on his nerves XDD
